Requirements for Testing
Applicants are required to attend a mandatory registration session
prior to testing. Applicants for the GED Examination must submit
a valid, official picture I.D., verification of Social Security number, and $19.00 for each
of the five tests comprising the GED Exam (Fee for entire test totals $95.00). This testing fee is non-refundable,
and is payable in cash, money order or cashiers check. There is an
$19.00 fee for each re-test if the applicant does not
successfully pass the initial test or if the applicant does not show
up for their test appointment. Persons who have previously earned
a high school diploma from an accredited institution or a GED credential
are not eligible to take the examination.
A total of 2250 points, with no single test score below 410,
is a passing score. This is an average standard score of 450. Individuals
who score below 410 on any test must retake that
test even if the total score for all five tests is 2250 or higher.
If these requirements are not met, a waiting period for retesting
may apply based on the average score attained by the examinee. Individuals
who do not earn 2250 points and who desire to retest must wait until
the waiting period expires to retest. However, if the individual enrolls
in GED preparation classes, he/she may retest when the instructor
certifies that they are ready to test again.
Age Requirements for Testing
Individuals who are twenty years old or older may test at any time.
Individuals who are 18 and 19 years old must show an official Withdrawal
Form at the time of registration. Individuals who are 16 or 17
years old may test only if they have approval from the Office of Adult
Literacy, Department of Technical and Adult Education. Applications
for Special Needs Testing, Under 18, must be obtained and submitted
to the GED office through an Adult Literacy teacher.
