  • Satisfactory scores on the SAT, ACT, CPE, COMPASS, or the ASSET Test if scores are within 5 years.

The COMPASS is a computerized adaptive test that measures skills and comprehension levels in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Applicants will be notified by mail or by Admissions Personnel at the time of application identifying their need to take the COMPASS Test.

  • Satisfactory scores on the SAT, ACT, CPE, COMPASS, or the ASSET Testif test scores are within 5 years.

Applicants and transfer students who have completed all or part of their postsecondary education outside of the United States and its territories are required to have their foreign postsecondary educational credentials evaluated by an independent evaluation service. A course-by-course evaluation is required. Transfer credit evaluations are completed as soon as all transcripts and foreign postsecondary educational credential evaluation(s), if applicable, have been received. An evaluation letter will be mailed to the student as soon as the evaluation is completed. Any student or applicant who has successfully completed (a "C" grade or better) transferable English and math courses may be exempt from taking the ASSET Test. These courses must be equivalent to the entry-level English and math courses required in the applicant's chosen program of study.

Admission files completed by the Admission Date are evaluated by the scheduled advisement/registration day for the next term. Incomplete admissions files will not be evaluated until all transcripts have been received by the Admissions Office.

Health Technologies programs have additional transfer requirements but include the same entry requirements as students with Regular Admission status. Students are restricted from entry into Health Technologies programs if they have failed any allied health course for the second time. Students transferring must have college/university level English and Math transfer courses or must show they have the minimum placement scores required by DeKalb Technical College's Health Technologies programs.

Transfer applicants or students not possessing appropriate transfer credits or test scores must see an Admissions Student Services Specialist to find out what placement testing is necessary. A transfer student is admitted to DeKalb Technical College under the following conditions:

  1. In good standing if the student was in good standing at the former institution and meets the requirements of the program the student plans to enter.

  2. On probation if the student was on probation at the former institution. A student admitted on probation must earn a grade point average of at least 2.0 on a minimum of five-quarter hours during the first quarter enrolled to continue the next quarter.

Students transferring must have acceptable English and Math transfer courses, as determined by the Registrar’s Office, or minimum placement scores as required by DeKalb Technical College’s Health and Human Services programs. Students applying for transfer into the Practical Nursing, EMT, and Paramedic programs will be required to pass a competency examination consisting of written and/or practical components before entrance into the program can be considered.

Transfer Credits: Ordinarily, institutions from which credits are transferred must be accredited by the regional accrediting association. As a general rule, credit will be given on a course equivalent basis. In some instances where course equivalency is questioned, credit must be validated by examination. (Examples include allied health courses and credits earned over ten years prior to the time of admissions evaluation). Only those courses in which a minimum grade of "C" was awarded are transferable. Credit hours assigned to transferred courses are the same as the credit hours awarded at the sending institution when credit hours do not exceed the number of credit hours assigned to equivalent courses at DeKalb Technical College. The maximum hours of credit given shall not exceed the number of hours awarded for the same course at DeKalb Technical College. Contact the Registrar's Office for additional information.

All courses evaluated for Health Technologies programs must show a grade of "C" or better and not be over ten years old prior to evaluation.
