Economic Development Programs

Business and Community Services - Corporate programs and services are scheduled on an as needed basis to assist organizations with workforce development needs. Schedules are flexible to meet client requirements. This may include training consultation, organizational development, workshops and seminars, customized training and human resource development outsourcing. Corporate academies and partnerships are available. Retraining Tax Credits are provided for certain organization and technology changes.
Courses and workshops are available in Customer Service, Leadership and Team Development, Technical Skills, Computer Software Applications and Automation, Workplace Spanish and other Languages, Communications, Job Specific Skills Training for Industrial and Service Operations, Occupational Health and Safety, Maintenance and Advanced Technology. Additional programs may be designed to meet specific performance requirements.
Quick Start services for eligible new, expanding and existing companies may be available at no cost.

Certified Specialist Programs - In response to business needs, workforce certification programs are offered by the Office of Economic Development to include Certified Customer Service Specialist, Certified Manufacturing Specialist, and Certified Warehouse and Distribution Specialist. Future programs will include Certified Warehouse and Distribution Specialist and the Certified Manufacturing Specialist in Spanish.

Online Courses - Through Ed2Go over 350 non-credit, instructor facilitated online courses covering a variety of professional and special interest topics are offered at prices beginning as low as $79 per course. A simple click to www.ed2go.com/dekalbtech/ opens the door to exciting non-credit learning. Other online training includes software applications, telecommunications, and industrial maintenance and safety. Professional and career development can be obtained in Real Estate through self-paced CD format, as well as traditional classroom setting. Online continuing education for realtors and others can be accessed through the Economic Development web page.

Community Continuing Education - Non-credit open enrollment programs are available quarterly for individuals seeking professional and personal development. Programs are available in a number of occupational areas to enable individuals to earn continuing education units (CEU's) required to maintain licenses and certifications.

Language - Workplace Spanish or Command Spanish - DeKalb Technical College offers Spanish you can use! Spanish spoken at your place of business is the target of this new training series. Effective communication in public safety and public service is increasingly important with our changing demographics. Emergency medical and office personnel face enormous challenges everyday. Business communication is easier with a command of specific phrases and questions your employee's need for improved productivity and customer relations. These courses can be taught at a company site with a group of at least 6 persons.

Continuing Education (non credit) classes and seminars are subject to cancellation in the event of inadequate enrollment. Continuing Education (non credit) classes and seminars cannot be converted to credits and they cannot count toward degrees, diplomas, or technical certificates of credit, and are not covered by HOPE.
