Through the Student Services unit of DeKalb Technical College, Special Services are provided in three major areas: Career Development, Services for the Disabled, and International Student Services for DeKalb Technical College students. Career Development Services are designed to provide individuals with information to identify career interests, aptitudes, and worked-related values. This is accomplished through career seminars and career exploration services. Career research materials are available to assist students in making realistic and appropriate career choices. The services offered aim to broaden occupational horizons for those undecided about a career or seeking a career change. These services can be obtained through the Office of Career and Job Search Services. Many career and job search-related tools are computerized and are accessible via the Internet. More information can be obtained through contacting the Office of Career and Job Search Services. The Special Services Office offers assistance to eligible students with documented physical, emotional/mental, hearing, visual, learning, and other health impairments. Accommodations are individualized based on current/appropriate documentation. Types of services are: career guidance, academic assessment/placement, assistive classroom technology, interpreters, and referral to community service agencies. Services must be requested and paperwork completed through the Special Services Office in order to receive accommodations. Accommodation guidelines follow ADA/504, Georgia State laws and Technical College System of Georgia regulations. Contact the Special Services Office or see the Special Services web page for additional information. International Student Services are available for Limited English Proficient (LEP)
and international students. International Student Advisors offer students
assistance with admissions procedures, career guidance, translations,
and other supportive services. Contact Admissions for Bilingual Services
assistance.
