What is the Certified Manufacturing Specialist program, and why was it developed?
Technology is changing whether through new plant locations, expansion or relocations; there is an increased demand for quality, skilled workers in our community. DeKalb Technical College is prepared to meet this need through the Certified Manufacturing Specialist program which was designed by industry professionals. The Certified Manufacturing Specialist, CMS, certificate program was developed by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education in 1996 to help provide Georgia's manufacturing industry with a skilled workforce. The skills learned in this training will help employees to have a uniform, systematic approach to manufacturing skills, organization principles, business principles, workplace success skills, computers and automation principles, quality and productivity which will result in companies having a skilled workforce that will positively impact the bottom line.
Upon successful completion of the CMS program, graduates receive a Technical Certificate of Credit plus 15 credit hours of manufacturing training that can be transferred to any of the technical colleges throughout the state and applied toward an undergraduate diploma or degree. Associates of applied technologies degrees transfer to bachelors programs at partnering colleges and universities. The certificate is awarded to those participants with an 80% passing grade. Completion of this program prepares individuals for a career in which manufacturing is a vital operation.
