Education Advancement Compensation

DeKalb Technical College encourages and supports the efforts of faculty and staff to pursue educational advancement. Full-time employees who would like to be considered for an increase in compensation upon completion of an advanced degree program must adhere to the following procedures:

 

  • At least one year prior to completing the coursework or activities leading to an advanced degree, the employee must submit a request to the President requesting consideration be given for increased compensation upon completion.  All requests must be submitted on the DTC Advanced Degree Consideration Form indicating that the planned degree is directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the employee and would be beneficial to the college.

  • Upon completion of the advanced degree, employees must submit an official transcript to the Office of Human Resources. Upon receipt of the official transcript, the Office of Human Resources will inform the employee’s supervising Vice President of the need for a recommendation to the President requesting approval of additional compensation.

There is no implied or expected obligation on the part of the college for an increase in compensation after the advanced degree is obtained without prior approval from the President. Increases in compensation will be based on available funds.

Salary adjustments will be processed at the beginning of the next fiscal year after the final transcripts are received and will have the effective date of July 1.

The employee must have satisfactory performance evaluations and no disciplinary actions for the preceding two years in order to receive an increase in compensation for an advanced degree.

The awarded salary increase shall not exceed the maximum for the applicable faculty salary schedule or staff salary range. The amount of the increase will be based upon available funds and the following:

  • High School to Associate Degree: 3% increase in salary
  • High School or Associate Degree to Baccalaureate Degree: 3% increase in salary
  • Baccalaureate Degree to Masters Degree: 3% increase in salary.
  • Masters Degree to Specialist Degree: 3% increase in salary.
  • Specialist Degree to Doctorate Degree: 3% increase in salary.
  • Masters Degree to Doctorate Degree: 6% increase in salary.
