Orientation for New Employees

Upon employment new full-time employees receive general orientation related to organizational structure, mission, vision and benefits conducted by the Office of Human Resources. Part-time employees receive general orientation from the hiring department.

During orientation, certain materials are presented to acquaint a new employee with DeKalb Technical College and its policies. Access to the College Catalog and Employee Manual are provided to new employees at the beginning of the employment period. In addition to specific policies of DeKalb Technical College, the Technical College System of Georgia Ethics in Action training, as well as Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training, and DOAS Driver Training are components of the new employee orientation program.

DEPARTMENTAL ORIENTATION

Procedures for the employment of a staff member usually extend over several weeks.  During the initial weeks of employment the new employee becomes acquainted with DeKalb Technical College and its functions. Duties and responsibilities of the position, committee work, College organization, salary schedules, and the role and relationship of DeKalb Technical College to the Technical College System of Georgia are discussed during initial employment. 

Orientation during initial employment is the responsibility of the individual’s immediate supervisor. Certain materials are utilized to acquaint a new employee with DeKalb Technical College and its policies.  Access to the College Catalog and Employee Manual are provided to new employees at the beginning of the employment period.

STAFF ORIENTATION

Orientation for new personnel is conducted at the departmental or unit level by the individual’s immediate supervisor.  Each employee is provided access to the Employee Manual, Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual, and other publications which support the role of the employee.  The employee is provided with a performance planning document which details the duties and expectation of the position.  Specific unit mission and policies are discussed during the initial weeks of employment.
