regarding grading procedures must be included on course syllabi/course handouts
and distributed to each student at the beginning of the quarter/course. A copy of this material is to be submitted to
department chairpersons at the beginning of each quarter. A final grade is a
composite grade of all work completed or attempted by a student while enrolled
in a specific course. It may include the
following:
Daily Grades: shall consist of homework, lab work, quizzes,
observations (based on objective criteria) and regular tests (at least 2). These categories should account for at least
70% of the final grade, with no one activity (test, paper, etc.) exceeding 30%.
Final Exam:
NOTE: Attendance is not to be
considered a part of the grade.

NOTE: "F" and "WF" grades
indicate failure. No credit toward
graduation is given for a course in which a grade of "F" or
"WF" was received.
"WF" indicates that the student withdrew from the course while
doing unsatisfactory work, or was withdrawn by the faculty member for excessive
absences (see the COURSE WITHDRAWALS section).
The
following symbols are used in the cases indicated, but will not be included in
the determination of the grade point average:
W - Withdrawn Indicates
that a student who was doing passing work was permitted to withdraw from the
course without penalty. Faculty should award a “W” grade to any student who has
not attended the class after the mid-term of the quarter unless
that student has completed sufficient work to earn a passing grade or
stopped attending after the mid-term of the quarter while doing unsatisfactory
work (“WF”).
I - Incomplete Indicates that a student has
satisfactorily completed a substantial portion of the course work, but for
NON-ACADEMIC reasons beyond his/her control has not been able to complete some
specific part or amount of the work required (for example, the final
examination). An "I" not
satisfactorily removed by the end of the following quarter will automatically
be changed to an "F". The time
allowed for completing work may be extended to a maximum of twelve months when
circumstances prevent the student from completing the work during the following
quarter. To obtain an "I" the
student and their faculty member must complete the Petition for "I" Grade form which will include a
description of the work to be completed and the completion date. Copies of the Petition for "I"
Grade will be filed with the faculty member and with the appropriate Department
Chairperson.
IP - In Progress Indicates
that a course continues beyond the end of the quarter.
S - Satisfactory Indicates
that a non-graded course was satisfactorily completed.
U - Unsatisfactory Indicates
a non-graded course was not satisfactorily completed.
AC – Articulated Credit Indicates credit earned through articulation.
AU - Audit Indicates
that a course was audited. No credit is
given.
EX – Credit by Exam Indicates
a credit by departmental examination.
TR – Transfer Indicates that transfer credit was awarded for a course at
another college.
A grade followed by an
asterisk (*) indicates a Learning Support course. A Learning Support grade is not counted in a
student’s earned hours or cumulative grade point average.
The
Work Ethics Evaluation is designed to teach, promote and evaluate desirable
work habits. The point system for work ethics is as follows:
3 - Exceeds Expectations
2 - Meets Expectations
1 - Needs Improvement
0 -
Unsatisfactory
Grades
will be recorded in the electronic gradebook system
for each course taught. Each faculty
member will have access to a workstation for entering grades during the
academic term. Individual grades for the areas shown on the course syllabi
(distributed to each student at the beginning of the term/course) are to be
recorded in this gradebook. The electronic gradebook system
will display a list of the students enrolled in each course -- taken directly
from the student information database (BANNER);
and automatically calculate the intermediary and final numerical grades for
each student. The procedures for using the electronic gradebook
system are posted on the DeKalb Technical College Intranet at http://intranet.dekalbtech.edu/. Click on the BANNER and BANNER Web link, then
under Gradebook and Grade Entry Setup, select which format (Word or PDF) you
prefer to view the Gradebook instructions.
