DeKalb Technical College’s Student Government Supports Literacy
The Student Government Association (SGA) of DeKalb Technical College is dedicated to promoting literacy for all ages with an emphasis on the children within Newton, Rockdale, Morgan, and DeKalb counties. SGA sponsors a yearly children’s book drive to donate books to local hospital emergency rooms and to the Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS) for children in crisis situations. The organization also participates in the DFCS Back-to-School Campaign to donate school supplies and children’s books for children in foster care. SGA sponsors costumed children’s characters at DeKalb Technical College campus events and give away children’s books to the children in attendance. The group most recently sponsored a costumed book characters event at the Newton County Library for a special children’s story time. Other literacy events are also planned for this year. For more information, contact Barbara Clay, Coordinator of Student Affairs, at the Newton Campus of DeKalb Technical College, 770-786-9522, ext. 3307.
