Admissions & Registration

Admissions
Admissions is a process which requires students to complete an application, which includes selecting a program of study; submit official documents of previous education; and complete placement testing or deliver appropriate test scores. Students who wish to change their program of study after enrollment must make an appointment with an Admissions/Student Affairs Specialist in the Admissions Office.

In addition to the above applicants seeking certificate/diploma/degree programs of study that have completed all or part of their postsecondary education outside of the United States and the United States territories are required to have their foreign postsecondary educational credentials evaluated by an independent evaluation service, which must be sent to the Admissions Office of DeKalb Tech.

Students absent from DeKalb Tech for one full year (four consecutive quarters) or have graduated from a DeKalb Tech program of study must reapply with no application fee required. Please see current catalog for more details.

On the Clarkston Campus, the Admissions Office is located in A103. On the Covington Campus the Admissions Office is located in A214.

Registration
Registration is the process where students enroll in classes.  New student should meet with their Academic Advisor prior to their first quarter registration. Current students should meet with their Program Advisor prior to each quarter registration. All students are required to register online (Banner Web) and are encouraged to take advantage of early registration. *New students receive an acceptance letter or registration letter stating the dates and times of New Student Registration at which time they will be instructed on how to Banner Web register.  Students, who Banner Web register, are responsible for reading and understanding the Terms and Usage guidelines prior to registering.  Students who choose not to register or change their class schedule (drop-add) on their scheduled dates and times may late register or late drop-add.  Students who late register will be charged a $30 non-refundable, late registration fee.  Students who late drop-add will be charged a
$20 non-refundable, drop-add fee.

Placement Testing
Placement testing is used to determine if a prospective student needs additional basic skills or courses before beginning a Program of Study. Applicants will be notified via DTC personnel or by mail of their need to take the COMPASS Test. Exit Testing is administered upon completion of the Learning Support Course Sequence. Students must meet the required COMPASS Test score before entering a college-level class as required by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education. The student must meet the required COMPASS Test score in conjunction with successfully completing the course in order to take a 191 class.

Course or College Withdrawal
A Withdrawal occurs when a student registers and pays for class(es) and it becomes necessary to withdraw from the course or from the College. Students who are contemplating withdrawal from a course or from the College should confer with their instructor and/or an Admissions/Student Affairs Specialist. If a decision to withdraw is made, students should begin withdrawal procedures in the Registrar’s Office. The official date of Withdrawal is the date the official Withdrawal Form is completed and submited to the Registrar's Office.

The Student Number is a nine-digit number used by students to gain access to their academic and financial records. For security purposes, students must use their Student Number for all transactions. Student Email Accounts
A Student Email Account is used to communicate information, updates, and announcements to students. Students are assigned an email account at the time of their admission to the College.
