Class Attendance Policy

Students enrolled in college programs are preparing themselves for direct entry into gainful employment.  Employers state that the main characteristic sought in potential employees is dependability and punctuality. The importance of student attendance is emphasized at DeKalb Technical College and all students are expected to be present and prompt for all class sessions. Therefore, students may be subject to dismissal from individual classes or from DeKalb Tech for excessive absences.
At the beginning of each quarter, departments must define absentee limits for the students in each course. A student may be withdrawn from a course after exceeding the maximum number of absences allowed by the instructor, unless the final absence falls within the last 10 days of the quarter, in which case the student will receive an “F”.  Student dismissal for excessive absences will be a joint decision made by the instructor, the Department Chair, and the Dean of Academic Operations.

ABSENT OR PRESENT, STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ASSIGNED WORK IN EACH CLASS.

Withdrawal /Refund Schedule
When a student registers for classes and it becomes necessary to withdraw from the class(es), the student must go to the Registrar’s Office and complete an official Withdrawal Form. The date of withdrawal is the day the student submits the completed form to the Registrar’s Office. A STOP PAYMENT ON A CHECK DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN OFFICIAL WITHDRAWAL NOR DOES IT CANCEL THE STUDENT’S FINANCIAL OBLIGATION.  A student who stops payment on a check is still responsible for all fees, including a $20 returned check fee. If a student does not formally withdraw from class, he or she is liable for all fees and associated expenses.

Refund Policy
All tuition and fees, excluding the application fee, will be refunded if a student formally withdraws before the first day of any quarter.
If a student withdraws from course or courses within seven consecutive calendar days, including holidays, during the scheduled Drop-Add/Late Registration period for that quarter, he or she is eligible for 100% refund of tuition paid.
If a student withdraws from course or courses within seven consecutive calendar days, including holidays, after the scheduled Drop-Add/Late Registration period for that quarter, he or she is eligible for 75% refund of tuition paid.
If a student who withdraws from a course or courses beyond the eighth calendar day of the quarter will not be entitled to a refund.
No portion of any miscellaneous fees such as registration fee, activity fee, insurance fees shall be refunded during this seven-day refund period. The late registration fee is non-refundable.
