Advisement

Academic and Program Advisement
Academic Advisors at DeKalb Tech insure that students pursue their educational and career objectives efficiently and effectively.  Unlike Student Affairs Specialists who recruit and assist students in program entry and program changes, Academic Advisors are faculty members who are assigned by department, are most knowledgeable about student progression in a given program of study, and who help students select appropriate courses.
Students are best served when Academic Advisement begins before or at Registration and continues through the first quarter. Program advisement continues with quarterly appointments with their assigned Academic Advisor.  Students must bring the following documents to their Faculty Advisement appointments:

  1. Placement Test Scores (if applicable)
  2. Program Acceptance Letter (if applicable)
  3. Current Schedule/Invoice (if applicable)
  4. Most recent Grade Report (if applicable)
  5. Transcript Evaluation Form (if applicable)

Duplicate copies of the Placement Test Scores and the Program Acceptance Letter may be requested from the Admissions Office prior to the day of advisement.  Duplicate copies of the Current Schedule/Invoice, the most recent Grade Report, and a Transcript Evaluation Form are available on the web at www.dekalbtech.edu.  Duplicate copies of these documents will not be available on Registration day.

Graduation Advisement
Faculty Advisement requires close cooperation between students and their assigned Faculty Advisor.  In order to insure program completion and graduation, students should take the following steps:

  1. Consider their personal, academic, and career goals to assure goal achievement.
  2. Identify special situations which affect goal achievement such as limits on time, work schedule, background deficiencies, other commitments, etc.
  3. Be familiar with the requirements for a given program of study.
  4. Schedule a Faculty Advisor appointment in the third or fourth week of each quarter to discuss progress in courses and gain assistance for future Banner Web registration.
  5. Maintain materials utilized in Faculty Advisement, such as the Catalog, course plan sheet, class schedule, etc.
Pending graduating students must initiate the graduation process.  Please see current catalog or visit our website: www.dekalbtech.edu for more details
