Tech Center and Student Vending Area
The Tech Center and Student Vending Areas are to be used by DeKalb Tech students, faculty, and staff for purposes of eating and socializing, and for events sponsored by the College.
The Tech Center and Student Vending Areas are not to be used for any gaming purposes such as card-playing, dominoes, or any other recreational activities.
The Tech Center and Student Vending Areas are not to be used to harbor activities or behaviors that infringe on the rights of other users, including excessively loud conversations and discussions, or profane and abusive language. The Tech Center is located in Building “A” on the Clarkston Campus. The Student Vending Area is located in Building “B” on the Covington Campus.
Inclement Weather
On days which threaten ice or snow, students should call ahead to find out if classes will be held. Students may call (404) 297-9522 and press 8 for current information. DeKalb Tech also provides information about delayed openings or closings to the media at WSB Radio, WSB-TV, and WGFS Radio in Covington.
Social Functions
All social functions require approval by the Dean of Academic Operations and
applications must be submitted two weeks prior to the scheduled function.
Whenever the institution's facilities are used for approved social functions,
the group sponsoring the function is responsible for restoring the area
to its previous condition.

Care of Campus Property
- Students should refrain from walking on the campus grassy areas.
- Lounge areas are provided for the benefit of all students. Students must not abuse the property therein and are expected to keep the areas clean and free of litter.
- Signs and posters on campus buildings or property must be approved by the Dean of Academic Operations.
Fund-Raising Activities
Club fund-raising projects must be approved by the Vice President of Student Affairs and the request for approval should be submitted to the Coordinator of Student Activities two weeks prior to the event. Any decision will be based on the merit of the project and the schedule of existing activities.
Handbills and Leaflets
Handbills and leaflets distributed on campus must be approved by the Dean of Academic Operations.
Illegal Drugs and Alcohol
DeKalb Tech prohibits the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of illegal drugs, alcohol, or controlled substances by students or staff as set forth in Georgia Law.
Guns and Weapons
It is unlawful for any person to carry to or possess or have under such person’s control while at a school building, school function, or school property or on any transportation furnished by the school any weapon or explosive compound.
A student shall not possess, handle, transmit, threaten, or discharge/use an object that can reasonably be considered or converted to be used as a weapon such as, but not limited to knives; guns; brass knuckles; fireworks; lighters; tear gas; mace; explosives; pepper gas; bats; clubs; sticks; or other instruments of bludgeoning type; projectiles and the like as set forth in Georgia Law.
Smoking
The use of tobacco products by students, faculty, staff members, other employees, and visitors is not permitted on college property.
Soliciting and Selling On Campus
Approved student clubs may be permitted to solicit and sell products and services on campus when they have written authorization from the Dean of Academic Operations.
Off Campus Advertisement
Students and organizations are permitted to solicit from local merchants when they have written permission from the Dean of Academic Operations
Student Assemblies
Student assemblies utilizing campus facilities must be scheduled by the Dean of Academic Operations. The Dean of Academic Operations will officially schedule any speakers and participants using campus facilities or conducting activities in the name of the College.
Telephones, Cell Phones and Mail for Students
Campus telephones are for official use only. A TDD is available in the Admissions Offices of the Clarkston Campus and the Covington Campus for students who are deaf/hard of hearing. Students should not be called at DeKalb Tech except in cases of an emergency. Messages for students will only be relayed in cases of an emergency.
In order to maintain an environment conducive to learning, cell/digital phones and pagers must be turned off or in a silent mode while in class or in the hallways.
Students should not give the College as their address since there is no mail service for students.
Visitors on Campus
Visitors on campus are expected to comply with all campus regulations. DeKalb Tech is an adult institution with the goal to provide a safe and effective educational environment for students to learn and employees to work. A parent or adult guardian is responsible for the supervision of children who are visiting on campus. Generally, children under the age of sixteen (16) are not allowed in DeKalb Tech facilities or on campus grounds. Under no circumstances are children allowed in classrooms or laboratories. Parents or guardians may be asked by administration to remove their child or children from the campus.
Health Services
Students should normally secure medical services through a private physician; however, in case of a serious accident or illness DeKalb Tech will refer a student to the nearest hospital for emergency care. It is understood that the student or parent will assume full responsibility for the cost of such emergency care at the hospital, including ambulance charges, if in the opinion of campus authorities such service is necessary. In the event of an emergency, the first employees on the scene should notify the Academic Deans.
Student Housing
Students are expected to secure their own off-campus housing. Information is available in the Office of Student Affairs about housing in the area for students who need assistance in locating suitable accommodations. DeKalb Tech does not assume legal responsibility for any consequences that may arise from off-campus housing. |
