Campus Security & Student Identification

Campus Security
DeKalb Tech provides campus surveillance with qualified security officers who have prior experience in security and law enforcement.

The parking lots are patrolled regularly during the day and evening with the assistance of motorized vehicles equipped with emergency lighting and the ability to assist other vehicles with minor problems. Parking permits are used to identify vehicles authorized to be on campus, facilitate students with vehicle mechanical problems, isolate accidents, and identify illegally parked vehicles.

The areas between buildings and in the hallways are patrolled regularly to ensure that the environment is safe and conducive to learning. Currently enrolled or prospective students, faculty, staff, and authorized guests are the only persons allowed on campus -- and then in areas appropriate to their legitimate activities.

Students, faculty, staff, and visitors on the Clarkston Campus should report any suspicious behavior or conditions to an appropriately identified security officer or an administrator in the Dean’s Office on the second floor, Building A, Room
A 204.

On the Covington Campus, suspicious behavior or conditions should be reported to a security officer or the Dean of Academic Delivery.  DeKalb Tech personnel are strongly encouraged to report anything observed out of the ordinary.

On the Clarkston Campus, security matters are handled by the administrator in charge located in the Dean’s office (A 204).

Lost and found issues on the Clarkston Campus are handled by the Office of Student Activities.  Calls for security on the Covington Campus should be placed with the Dean of Academic Delivery at extension 3116 or the Information Center at extension 3100.

Lost and found issues on the Covington Campus are handled by the Information Center located at A214.  The Deans of Academic Delivery is in charge of keeping records for security violations on all campuses.

Student and Visitor Identification
DeKalb Tech students are required to wear and/or clearly display their student identification (ID) badges while on campus at all times. Campus visitors must do the same with a temporary ID that can be obtained from the Campus Information Center. Students and campus visitors who refuse to wear and/or clearly display their ID after being approached by a DeKalb Tech official will be asked to leave the campus.

Student I.D. pictures are made on New Student Registration day(s), Drop-Add day(s), and other scheduled dates. Refer to the Quarterly Schedule for registration and drop-add dates.

Every student I.D. must be validated each quarter. This can be accomplished at the Information Center Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the Clarkston Campus. The Information Office on the Covington Campus is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is a $5.00 charge for replacing a lost I.D.
