Banking & Finance

Overview
The Banking and Finance program at DeKalb Technical College is designed to prepare students for the banking, finance, mortgage, insurance, and securities industries as well as government.  The programs provide opportunities to upgrade present knowledge and skills as required by our ever-changing business environment and technology.  These courses emphasize bank structure and bank innovation in banking and expanding economies, money and banking concepts, and business cycles, bank risk, mortgage types and underwriting, insurance coverage’s , financial planning, teller operations, and customer service.  In addition, the students learn and work with microcomputers, the Microsoft Office Suite, web searches and web working, actual web class interaction, use of a financial calculator, understanding of proper business ethics and case studies.

What To Expect
The classes are learner-centered and facilitated by instructors with industry experience and academic expertise.  Class enrollments are limited to ensure that students have the opportunity to participate in class discussions and activities.  Classrooms are set up with state-of-the-art technology.
 

Banking and Finance Advisory Committee
Banking and Finance professionals serve on the Program’s Advisory Committee.  They regularly review the program, curriculum, learning objectives, and student achievements to ensure that industry standards are met and graduates have the skills and knowledge to obtain positions and advance their banking career.

Internships
Banking and Finance students may complete an internship as part of their program. The internship gives students an opportunity to gain marketing experience and industry contacts.

Career Outlook
Due to the growth in service occupations, many opportunities exist for positions in banking and finance. Typical positions available to graduates of the program include customer service representative, personal banker, mortgage loan officers, financial analyst, business banker, and trust operations specialist.

Annual Salary Range
Earnings in the banking industry vary significantly by occupation.  With an Associate's degree in Banking and Finance, you will enter an organization at an entry level where salaries will be between $21,153 and $33,691.
