Marketing

Overview
The marketing program prepares students for professional careers in promotion, sales, distribution, entrepreneurship, retail management, and related occupations. The variety of career/academic tracks allows students to gain the knowledge and skills to secure entry-level positions, start their own business, or advance into marketing management positions.

What To Expect
All classes are learner-centered and facilitated by instructors who blend lectures with group discussions, case studies, collaborative learning projects, and guest speakers from industry.

Each class has a limited enrollment to encourage active participation by all students. The web-enhanced classes meet less often since online instruction supplements the classroom experience.
Students may select day, evening, and/or online classes to complete their program of study at their own pace. All courses are offered online for those who require flexible schedules.

Karen Howard
Karen Howard
Marketing Instructor

 

Ms. Karen Howard has twenty years of marketing experience in private industry. Prior to starting her own business, she held numerous management positions with small and medium size companies in metro Atlanta. Her responsibilities included marketing research, new product development, promotions, and strategic planning. Ms. Howard has a masters degree in management, graduate courses in marketing, and bachelor degrees in marketing and communication.

DeKalb Technical College has a marketing curriculum that is right on track to fulfill the needs of today’s business community. But, perhaps the greatest assets in the marketing program are the exceptional instructors – who are knowledgeable and ‘in tune’ with the constant changes in the industry.

Internships
Marketing students may complete an internship as part of their program. The internship gives students an opportunity to gain marketing experience and industry contacts.

Student Organization
Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) is an international organization that prepares college students for marketing and management careers through leadership roles and competitive events. The annual state and national competitions allow students to refine their marketing skills and network with other marketing students and employers.

Employment Opportunities
The good news is that most businesses have one or more employees performing their marketing and sales function. The marketing positions in larger companies will be more specialized. Click on the link to view job titles and responsibilities that are available.
Occupational Outlook

Annual Salary Range
The salary range is wide due to the variety of marketing positions. Starting annual salaries for graduates is between $22,000 and $29,000.
