DeKalb Tech's Phlebotomy Technician Program is a short-term program designed to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills needed to gain
employment as a phlebotomy technician. The program courses are completed on the Clarkston Campus and then the clinical rotations are completed at local hospitals. The program has two entries a year, in Summer Quarter and Winter Quarters. Students may may enroll in the program prerequisite courses any quarter.

Phlebotomy Students   The Program provides knowledge and skills on the collection and handling of patient specimens. The student will receive instruction on proper procedure and techniques for all ages and types of venipuncture and skin puncture. Training at the hospitals require transportation due to the clinical rotations start time of 5:00 a.m. Competencies achieved in the study of phlebotomy meet the qualification criteria for national program certification


Entrance Requirements:
The Phlebotomy Technician faculty is available to advise those students whose scores meet the requirements to enter the program. A student should contact the advisor immediately upon deciding on Phlebotomy Technician training. The class sizes are limited and your name will be added to the list of students who are interested in the program.

  Pheblotomy Practice
Students must be a high school graduate, or have a GED and must be a minimum of 17 years of age to make application to the Phlebotomy Technician Program. Students may make advisement appointments by calling or sending an ail to the Faculty Advisor. Students must bring with them a copy of their most recent transcript and ASSET/SAT/CAP scores for advisement.

Employment Opportunities: Phlebotomist's are in employed hospitals, physician office laboratories, reference laboratories, free-standing clinics, American Red Cross, insurance companies, or any setting where blood needs to be collected.

Estimated Salary: Beginning basic salary estimated at $10.00 to $11.50/ hr; 2nd Shift differential, add $1.40/hr; 3rd Shift differential, add $2.00/hr; weekend shift add $1.05
