October 2006

Clarkston Campus Renaissance

Phase 2

Foundation work and slab prep continue. Some time has been lost due to rain but plans are for the slab to be poured on/or about November 15th. The plumbers and electricians are busy placing their under-slab conduits and lines. The live cut-over by Georgia Power to our new transformers went smoothly. The exterior concrete walls that had to be poured around the classroom project have been completed. I hope everyone pays close attention to the clean and dry roof as shown in the pictures.

The earthen pad for the multi-purpose building is complete. The foundation work in this area will begin immediately.

Everyone had hoped that the new roadway for the multi-purpose building would have been open by now. That event will open up the area between C & D to vehicles.  But as with everything else, there is a problem. It appears that when the original parking lot was finished back in the 60”s, it was packed using wet soil. That has caused instability in this area.

So, you will be noticing that our contractor will dig out at least 16” and start rebuilding the roadways.  This finding will costs us another $36,000 plus.

In the middle of this group pf pictures are four (4) showing the work on the A building roof. The one that looks like black mud is the old deteriorated roofing material. We are fortunate that funds were appropriated for this repair. One may ask how all this mess was taken off. Answer: It came off one shovel load at a time. I think this qualifies as a “dirty” job.
