Who to See About What

Applicants for admission to a credit program must have a complete file (transcripts, test scores, etc.) in the Admissions Office by the Admissionn Closing Date for the quarter in which they plan to enroll. Applicants who apply after the Admissions Closing date of their chosen quarter will be processed for the
following quarter.

TESTING
COMPASS Placement: All persons applying for admission to a credit program are required to take the COMPASS placement test unless they have satisfactory scores on the SAT, ACT, CPE, ASSET, COMPASS or appropriate transfer credits from another postsecondary institution. Applicants will be notified by mail when to take the COMPASS placement test which includes English, reading, and mathematics. Its purpose is to determine if a prospective student needs additional basic skills courses before beginning a planned program of study. Placement test scores are subject to change by DeKalb Tech without notice. Transfer students are responsible for checking with Admissions to see if they need additional testing. There will be a $35 fee for non-DeKalb Tech students who take the COMPASS test.

COMPASS Retest Policy
DeKalb Technical College provides extensive information and guidance regarding Admissions placement testing.
Applicants and students are encouraged to read and study the testing guide and review website information carefully
prior to taking the COMPASS placement test.
The COMPASS Testing Specialist will provide a COMPASS retest if you meet the guidelines below:
• Test scores must be within 5 points of the required program ready score for the specific content area.
• Only one retest is allowed per content area.
• Applicants planning to apply to retest must schedule the retest with the COMPASS Testing Specialist in the COMPASS Lab.
• A charge of $10 per content area is required in order to retest.
• Applicant can not retest if they have begun a sequence of developmental studies courses in the content area prior to testing.
• A retest cannot be given within 14 days of original testing
• We strongly recommend at least 25 hours per content area of self remediation or personal study prior to retesting.
• Retesting is encouraged to be completed prior to the end of registration for the quarter in which you plan to enroll.
